TIXe Gallery presents:
September 12th – October 10th, 2008
Artist's reception: Friday. September 12th 2008. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
TIXe Gallery is pleased to present, Portraits, the latest work of Corey Baker that explores the artists highly personal approach to image making. Inspired by modern printing techniques, Corey references photos taken of friends and relatives in order to break down his imagery into a complex array of squares, circles and grids. Corey later translates and transposes that reduction of imagery into large-scale compositions that become focused on exploring viewer relationships and interactions.
“By using references to friends and relatives I keep my own personal investment in each work, at the same time I am trying to create an optical experience for the viewer separate from my emotional investment in the work. I want change each viewers perception of what they are seeing, depending on the time, distance or the angle of their perception to each piece.”
Corey is the former director for exit (a gallery space), which closed earlier this summer after operating for three years between Kent and Tremont.
There will be an opening reception Friday, September 12th from 6 – 9 p.m.
The exhibition will be on view until October 10th. Phone or email the gallery for further details.
